EHS invites faculty, staff & students to register for CPR/AED and First Aid Training.

You can register for the first aid class separately or at the same time as the CPR/ AED class. If you are taking both parts, simply select your preferred time slot for each.

To register please contact: Kim Harmon at kcox2@utk.edu or 865-974-5084.

Provide your name, building location, department and account number that this class will be charged to. If you will be paying personally please provide your name and building location, and you can pay by cash or check. If you are paying cash come by the Environmental Health and Safety office at 414 East Stadium Hall. Checks can be submitted through campus mail.

Remember, certifications expire after two years.

Free Workshop on Tourniquet Use, Trauma Kits May 28

UT Environmental Health and Safety is offering a free course for the campus community on how to use tourniquets and ‘Stop the Bleed’ trauma kits on Tuesday, May 28. Whether it’s an injury from lawn care or a more serious scenario like an active shooter, participants will learn how to stop arterial bleeding—bleeding from arms and legs—a critical skill that could help save someone’s life before professional help arrives. They also will learn how to apply pressure to wounds on the head and torso.

The 1:30 to 3 p.m. workshop will be held at the UT Visitor’s Center, 2712 Neyland Drive. It is open to UT students, faculty and staff.

A UT Medical Center emergency room registered nurse will lead the class.

UT is part of the nationwide effort to empower bystanders to help save lives in bleeding emergencies. There are over 70 automated external defibrillators on campus, all of which have Stop the Bleed kits. Additionally, large assembly buildings including Neyland Stadium, Thompson-Boling Arena, the Student Union and Hodges Library have large trauma kits with multiple tourniquets.

National Work Zone Awareness Week

A Construction Zone is no stranger at the University of Tennessee. Several new buildings are taking shape or are already beginning to serve a new generation of users. Driving through construction zones, whether on campus (or off) poses one of the greatest risks in the workplace. Vehicle related accidents are the number one cause of death in the workplace. EHS would like to encourage you to slow down and drive carefully through or near construction areas. Drive as though you are driving through your own workplace. After all, this is where the UT community lives, learns, and works. In other words…

“Drive Like You Work Here”

Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones. The key message is for drivers to use extra caution in work zones.
