Accelerator Training

Course Description

This training module reviews radiation hazard information, exposure monitoring, safe use practices, instrumentation, and basic procedures for radiation workers using accelerators. It also covers safety features specific to the accelerator in use: Ion Beam Materials Lab (IBML), Nuclear Engineering (NE) Linatron, or the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Linear Accelerator (LINAC).

Audience

Campus members who use an accelerator at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville or CVM.

Initial Course Details

  • This training is required before you begin working with the accelerator.
  • Learning Credit: 1 hour
  • Delivery Platform: Initial – In-person
  • Certificate: This course does not provide a completion certificate. Completion is tracked by Radiation Safety.
  • Enrollment: By request

Refresher Course Details

  • This training is required to continue working with the accelerator.
  • Learning Credit: 1 hour
  • Delivery Platform: Canvas (Academic)
  • Certificate: This course does not provide a completion certificate. Completion is tracked by Radiation Safety.
  • Enrollment: Assigned annually
  • Annual Notification: Every fall, Radiation Safety will e-mail radiation workers, who completed the initial or annual refresher Accelerator training in the previous year.
